Vision
Vision is an essential part of your overall health. As a HUGHP member, you have coverage for routine eye exams, other vision services, plus a variety of discounts. The amount you pay will depend on your plan and where you access services.
My Vision Benefits
- One routine vision exam (for eyeglasses) per calendar year, no referral needed
- Eye care for disease or trauma is covered as a non-routine office visit (requires a referral)
Non-Covered Services
- Contact lens evaluations, fitting, and follow-up care are not covered
- Visionwear, such as frames and lenses
Find an Eye Doctor
To find an optometrist or ophthalmologist in our network, visit the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts website. You can search for a provider by name, specialty, or location. In the “Select a Network” field, choose “HMO Blue.”
- HMO plan - a referral is required for a non-routine vision exam
- POS and POS Plus plans – to receive in-network benefits, a referral from your HUGHP PCP is required; otherwise, your coverage will be at the out-of-network level

Elective EyeMed Vision Plan
Members who elect to participate in the University’s EyeMed Vision Plan can find participating providers and view plan details by visiting the EyeMed website.
