Find a Medical Specialist
In general, your primary care physician (PCP) coordinates all of your health care needs. If you need to see a specialist, your primary care physician will refer you to a network provider. The specialist is often affiliated with your primary care physician's hospital or group.
Both Harvard University Health Services and Atrius Health are multi-specialty groups, with specialists located on-site. Your HUHS or Atrius Health PCP will likely refer you to their on-site specialists first, before referring you to an external specialist, to ensure continuity of care.
When needed, adult primary care physicians may refer to any Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBSMA) HMO Blue specialist in Massachusetts. Pediatric primary care physicians may also refer to any Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBSMA) HMO Blue specialist in Massachusetts.
HMO Blue Network
Select “HMO Blue” as your plan’s network when searching for a provider.
Harvard University Health Services
Available to those with HUHS PCPs only.
Atrius Health Provider
Available to those with Atrius PCPs only. Select a specialty from the "Select Specialty" field.
POS and POS Plus Members
Members with the POS or POS Plus plans can select an out-of-network provider. If you choose a provider who does not participate in the HMO Blue network and/or self-refer for care, you will have higher out-of-pocket costs. Review your Benefit Description for more details.
