Find a Primary Care Physician
All HUGHP members must select a primary care physician (PCP). A PCP is trained to prevent, diagnose, and treat a broad array of illnesses and injuries in the general population. If you need a specialist, your PCP can refer you and share your background, including your condition and any previous treatment you may have had.
Beginning January 1, 2027, HUGHP is Expanding Its Adult Primary Care Provider Network
HUGHP’s adult primary care provider (PCP) network is expanding and will now include PCPs at Beth Israel Lahey Health locations throughout Massachusetts. This is in addition to the current Harvard University Health Services (HUHS) and Atrius Health locations.
Get Care on Campus or Closer to Home
Our adult primary care physician (PCP) network includes Harvard University Health Services and all Atrius Health locations. Beginning January 1, 2027, our adult PCP network is expanding to include the Beth Israel Lahey Health Performance Network. This means that our adult members will have access to 900+ primary care physicians.

- Law School Clinic – Pound Hall
- Medical Area Clinic – Vanderbilt Hall
Atrius Health (30+ Locations)
- All Atrius Health locations
Beth Israel Lahey Health Performance Network (BILHPN)
- This network includes Beth Israel Lahey Health Primary Care practices, as well as independent affiliated providers and practices in the network, including Cambridge Health Alliance and Fenway Health. To find a provider, visit the BILHPN Provider Directory and select "PCP" as the provider type.
Before an appointment, make sure you:
- Call the provider's office to register as a new patient. Note: You and your family can choose primary care providers at different locations if you desire.
- Notify HUGHP Member Services of your selection prior to your appointment (if you select an HUHS PCP, Member Services will notify the HUHS PCP office of your selection automatically).
Without a PCP on file, your claims may not be processed, and you may be billed directly for your care.
HMO members must select a PCP at an in-network HUGHP network location.
POS and POS Plus members
- For in-network care, members must select a PCP at an in-network HUGHP network location (HUHS or Atrius Health).
- POS and POS Plus members can also select an out-of-network primary care physician or pediatrician, but will have higher out-of-pocket costs. Note: out-of-network primary care physicians cannot process referrals, even if you are requesting a referral to an in-network provider. This means that almost all of your covered services will be subject to the out-of-network level of benefits.
