A Message From HUGHP’s Medical Director and HUHS Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Kathy Niknejad
A Message From HUGHP’s Medical Director and HUHS Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Kathy Niknejad:
Dear Colleagues,
At HUHS, it is our privilege to serve the health care needs of the Harvard community. We are dedicated to caring for our patients at every stage of their health journey. Whether you are focusing on prevention and wellness, navigating a new diagnosis, or managing a chronic condition, our commitment is to help you achieve your best health. Our main clinical practice is located at the Smith Campus Center in Harvard Square, making high-quality care accessible at the center of campus life. With additional practices at the Law School and the Medical School in the Longwood area, we bring care to where many of you live and work. By uniting Primary Care, Urgent Care, and Specialty Medicine across these sites, we provide not only comprehensive and coordinated care, but also a trusted home for your health right here on campus.
Comprehensive, Connected Care—Right Here at Harvard
We are proud to have some of the best primary care physicians (PCP) and nurse practitioners in the Boston area, with excellent access. Alongside Primary Care, we offer Urgent Care that is fully integrated with Internal Medicine and our specialties through shared medical records, ensuring seamless communication and continuity of care. Our 24-hour Urgent Care line gives you immediate access to a clinician for guidance on urgent issues, while our nurses and care coordinators follow up to keep your PCP informed and ensure you receive the care you need. It is a model of truly coordinated care at a time when that is a rarity.
When you choose an HUHS PCP through HUGHP, in addition to Primary Care and Urgent Care, you also have access to a wide range of specialties on-site.
- Specialty services: including Allergy, Dermatology, Eye Care, OB-Gyn, Neurology, General Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery consultations, Physical Therapy, Urology, and Sports Medicine.
- Behavioral health support: Our Behavioral Health team—composed of psychiatrists, psychologists, and therapists—understands the unique challenges faced by Harvard faculty and staff. We offer both in-person and virtual appointments with rapid access, coordinating care whenever appropriate. Our goal is to give you true peace of mind when it comes to your physical and mental health.
- Comprehensive wellness resources: We also provide Nutrition, massage therapy, and acupuncture at our Center for Wellness and Health Promotion.
Our physicians and specialists are affiliated with Harvard Medical School and its world-class teaching hospitals, including Mass General Brigham, Mount Auburn Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and Cambridge Health Alliance. These affiliations ensure that, when referrals are needed outside of HUHS, you benefit from seamless connections to the very best hospitals and specialists in Boston.
Established over 125 years ago, HUHS is a campus-based health care organization devoted exclusively to the needs of the Harvard University community, including faculty and staff enrolled in HUGHP. This deeply rooted culture—created by the close integration of HUGHP and the HUHS clinical practice—ensures that members of our community receive high-quality care, comprehensive health plan coverage, and personalized customer service.
Sincerely,
Kathy G. Niknejad, MD
Chief Medical Officer, HUHS
