A pediatrician is a medical doctor who manages the physical, behavioral, and mental care for children. A pediatrician is trained to diagnose and treat a broad range of childhood illnesses, from minor health problems to serious diseases.

New Pediatric Primary Care Options.

Dependent children (under age 26) will be able to select a pediatric primary care provider at Atrius Health, Mount Auburn Pediatrics, or with any HMO Blue Massachusetts pediatrician or family medicine physician. There are no changes to the adult primary care physician network. Search for an Atrius pediatrician

Before your child's first appointment, make sure you: 

  1. Selected an in-network pediatrician.
  2. Called the pediatrician's office to register your child as a new patient.
  3. Notified Member Services of your selection prior to receiving care.

Without a pediatrician on file, your child's claims may not be processed, and you may be billed directly for your child's care.

HMO members must select a pediatrician in the BCBS HMO Blue network in Massachusetts. 

POS and POS Plus members

  • For in-network care, members must select a pediatrician within the BCBS HMO Blue network in Massachusetts.
  • POS and POS Plus members can also select an out-of-network pediatrician, but will have higher out-of-pocket costs.
