Harvard University Group Health Plan offers coverage for dependents. Visit the Harvard University Benefits Office website for more information on eligibility requirements for dependents.
Primary care/pediatric network
You and your dependents can receive care at different locations.
- Enrolled adult dependents can select a primary care physician on-site at Harvard University Health Services or closer to home with an Atrius Health provider.
- Pediatrics providers are available at Atrius Health and at Mount Auburn Pediatrics (effective January 1, 2021).
Services are not covered for dependents who receive care from a primary care physician outside of the HUGHP network. See Primary Care Physician Network for more information.
Enrolling a newborn
- Enroll your child through the Harvard Benefits Office—within 30 days from the date of birth
- Select a pediatrician in the Harvard University Group Health Plan network
Dependents residing or traveling outside of Massachusetts
HUGHP covers urgent care and emergency care when your dependents are temporarily outside of Massachusetts. Dependents must call their PCP within 48 hours to request an out-of-state urgent care referral. Emergency room visits do not require a referral and we provide coverage at an in-network level. All follow- up care must be coordinated by your primary care physician.
POS and POS Plus members
POS and POS Plus members have coverage for planned care outside of Massachusetts. Out of pocket costs may vary depending on your plan.
