How Specialty Referrals Work

Your PCP will refer you to someone in his or her own medical practice or to a specialist with whom he or she is affiliated. This is because PCPs often develop strong working relationships with particular specialists, enabling them to collaborate more effectively on your behalf. With a shared electronic medical record and established referral patterns, physicians are able to communicate better, see all relevant aspects of your care, provide appropriate treatment, and deliver a higher quality of care. Behavioral Health

HUGHP members may receive behavioral health (mental health and substance abuse) services by obtaining authorization to see behavioral health provider in the BCBS managed care Behavioral Health Network. Learn more about how to find a behavioral health specialist.
