PCPs often develop strong working relationships with particular specialists, enabling them to collaborate more effectively on your behalf. With a shared electronic medical record and established referral patterns, physicians are able to communicate better, see all relevant aspects of your care, provide appropriate treatment, and deliver a higher quality of care. This is why a PCP will refer you to someone in his or her own medical practice or to a specialist with whom he or she is affiliated. HUGHP members must obtain a referral from their Primary Care Physician (PCP) for any specialist visits outside of HUHS.
